CBS News: Corps estimates dam failure could cost 50-120 lives, billions of dollars

CBS Nightly News today reported an official with the Army Corps of Engineers said failure of the troubled Wolf Creek Dam could mean the loss of 50-120 human lives downstream.

The report also said potential damage to the City of Nashville "would be measured in the billions."

A failure at the dam likely would cause flooding downstream along the Cumberland River. Additional coverage of the dam, including a map of potential flood areas in Charlotte Park, can be seen here.

Metro asks big water-users to restrict use

While Nashville has a reliable water source in the Cumberland River, the current drought has caused water-pressure concerns that -- for the first time ever -- triggered city officials to ask big users in West Nashville to curb their water use, according to WKRN.com. Full story here.

Baker elected to represent District 20

In Thursday's Metro Council elections, voters elected Buddy Baker to represent District 20. Baker received 63.7% of the 1,686 votes, defeating incumbent Billy Walls , who received 16.7%. Candidates Brenda Inglis and Lillian Pharris received 13.6% and 5.9% of votes, respectively. Two write-in votes were cast.
