Stores coming soon to Nashville West

UPDATE March 21, 2008: For the latest on Nashville West store openings, click here. The huge Nashville West retail development situated between Charlotte Avenue and Interstate 40 soon will add to its portfolio of new stores, which currently includes Target, Dick's Sporting Goods, Best Buy, Marshall's, Ross and Costco. According to the project's developer, real estate firm Newton Oldacre McDonald, Nashville West will grow to more than 650,000 square feet of space.Chad Newell, the developer's contact for retail center services, said several other stores are coming soon: Old Navy, Books-A-Million, World Market, Staples, PetSmart and others. Newell said the developers are very excited about the center, which they expect will enhance the quality of life for area citizens."The open-air lifestyle center blends retail, restaurants and a park," he said. "The sidewalks traversing the development provide wonderful connectivity within the center. The landscaping, decorative lighting and stone blended within the architecture are all wonderful aspects of Nashville West."Newell said some of the new stores will open this year, while certain stores and restaurants will open in 2008.Newton Oldacre McDonald purchased the 67 acres for Nashville West in 2004.

I can't wait for the Old Navy. It is nice to see this recently forgotten shopping center reemerge as a nice new venue for those of us on the West Side.Glad to see you up and running in Charlotte Park. We'll have to trade notes sometime.Rob RobinsonSylvan Park Neighborhood Association

I guess open-air lifestyle is another term for strip mall since you get to walk from store to store outside. How this is going to improve the quality of life in Nashville is beyond me. Besides the terrible traffic congestion this is causing, why did we need another Target when there is one a mile down the road - also new and offering the exact same thing? This is not revamping a long forgotten shopping mall, this is what we cut down all these old trees down for.I am still curious to see what the final project will look like but I am saddened by the fact that yet again, consumerism has won.

I live close the the Nashville West shopping center and I think it has help alleviate some of the traffic. It is so much easier to go here than all the way into nashville there is a Mattress Firm and World Market for furniture as well as the best retailers like Dicks and Best Buy, and the resturants I love not having to drive all the way into Nashville for something
